40 labels · 4 intensities · 2 expression modes

Name an authored state clearly, then keep its requested intensity and public expression separate. These labels support scene construction and careful interpretation; they are not diagnoses from outward behaviour.

02

MODES

Freely expressed or held.

Humaneness PerformanceNet · Reference library

Part of Humaneness PerformanceNet: Script Analysis authors a performance from source material; Performance Annotation describes recorded or generated scenes. Shared taxonomies support filtering, generation and diverse data selection.

Appendix C / Reader’s guide

How to read this volume

Start with the circumstance, then identify what the performer is asked to express or hold. During observation, describe the visible or audible evidence before offering an emotional reading.

One label can support many performances

A state name does not prescribe a single facial expression, vocal pattern or movement. Fear can be expressed through motion, stillness or controlled reassurance. The entry’s manifestations are examples; the distinction helps prevent neighbouring labels from becoming interchangeable.

FieldReading instruction
DefinitionThe meaning of the state or label in this vocabulary.
Dramatic circumstanceA playable situation for an authored virtual actor.
Possible manifestationsWays the performance may be realised. They do not prove a private state.
DistinctionThe difference from nearby labels or misleading interpretations.
Intensity optionsRequested prominence: 1 trace, 2 moderate, 3 strong, 4 extreme. Keep target, knowledge source and interval explicit.

Decode an expression cell

EMO-AMU-I3-HELD means the emotion/state vocabulary (EMO), amusement (AMU), requested strong intensity (I3), with expression held (HELD). FREE is the alternative expression mode. The 320 cells are 40 × 4 × 2 combinations; their identifiers are reproduced in full at the end.

Authored state is not observed certainty. A prompt may establish a strong inner state with a quiet public surface. The Script Analysis System can describe that instruction. PerformanceNet records the surface, changes over time and any contextual interpretation with its evidence and confidence.

The four reading groups below retain source order. They are navigation ranges, not new psychological categories.

Appendix C / Complete vocabulary

Forty labels in context

Each entry gives a definition, a playable circumstance, possible manifestations and a distinction. Manifestations are examples, not necessary or sufficient diagnostic signs. Intensities 1–4 describe requested prominence in a scene; they do not convert a model’s raw score into a calibrated human intensity.
